Java Support Engineer. Sheffield
Job Description:
The Java Support Engineer will be responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support to customers. This covers assistance with installation and support of our software, as well as investigating faults and potential defects. You will need to be able to talk to customers about technical issues in a way in which they understand and deal effectively with both technical and non-technical people.
The Role:
• Tracking customer and documenting incidents.
• Confident working on your own, taking ownership of issues and when required, co-ordinating with other support staff, developers, account managers and application engineers.
• Understanding of Java web technologies to identify bugs/ defects.
Skills & Attributes required:
Essential Requirements
• A proven background in IT Systems support focusing on applications rather than underlying infrastructure, preferably of web-based applications. This should have been for at least two years.
• Working knowledge of Java
• Ability to write SQL queries and perform basic database operations
• Good general understanding of modern Windows based infrastructure and applications software
• A degree
Soft Skills
• Proven in a customer facing IT support role over email and phone
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Patient nature and ability to deal with customers over the phone
• Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure
• A commitment to quality and a thorough approach to the work
• Ability to work well within a team
Desirable Skills
• Web development skills – Java, HTML, Javascript.
• Knowledge of the Oracle and / or MySQL databases.
• Knowledge of Windows and / or Linux administration.
• Foreign language skills would be advantageous. For example French or German.
